  1. Hey, I use mpegprop to figure out MPG's video format, bit rate and size. Works fine.

But when it gets to .DAT files, I don't know what to use to figure that information out...

For some reason, if I burn a .cue of a VCD I get on the net, my DVD player doesn't like it. But if I use isobuster, extract the .DAT and drop it in a new VCD Template in NERO 5.5.6.4, it works.

But sometimes NERO complains about the format of those .DAT's... If I let nero fix it, if unwatchable... If I turn off that check, my DVD player has trouble playing the movie, it's skipping... So I would like to be able to figure out my .DAT files format before burning them and stop wasting time.

    Any clue ?

    Thanks

  2. You can use VCDGear to convert the "DAT" file back to standard MPEG (there is not loss of quality).

It sounds like some of the CUE/BIN images you are downloading are those of "XVCDs" -- i.e., non-standard/compliant VCDs.

  3. sometimes these vcds get released off spec.. sometimes they (1) are streamed (muxed/multiplexed) wrong.. (2) sometimes they lower the audio bitrate and up the video bitrate so you get 1374 stream (which is right) but too high video. Some players dont like that either. skipping is generally caused by the first. after you use iso buster. demux and remux (as mpeg vcd)it with tmpgenc to fix the streaming

  4. Do I realy have to convert the DAT to MPG before knowing the encoding though ?

Thanks to you both, I'll give it a shot with the demux-remux combination.

  5. Download a tool called Daemon Tools: http://www.daemon-tools.com

This allows you to mount a CUE/BIN image as if it were a real CD in a CD drive.

Then, use VCDXMINFO (a tool in the VCDImager package) on one of the dat files to see its specs. That way, you don't have to extract anything out of anything to see if the files are in spec.
