I have a movie DVD which is about 8.5gb in size. I made a backup copy of only the main movie on this disc to a DVD5 (4.7gb) disk. I used Nero Recode for this purpose. When I played the backed-up copy I realised that the sound volume was very low on the copy. How and why did this happen?
The original disc had Dolby 5.1 surround sound. While making the copy I chose it in Nero Recode. There is no option to change the sound settings. So why did the sound volume turn out so low? And what do I do prevent this happening in the future?
p.s. : While using Nero Recode, I had DVD Region+CSS Free enabled to remove the copy protection on the original DVD. Would this have had any effect? Kindly reply. Thanks.

I suspect Recode works in a similar way to DVDShrink - in that case, all audio is untouced. Possibly some audio stream stripped out, but not any stream reencoded or in other way changed.
Maybe you're listening to different audio tracks on your original and backup?

The original DVD has audio in only one format i.e. Dolby 5.1 surround. So even if I want I cant choose another sound track.
Another thing is I have 2 dvd drives, one a reader and another a burner. When I used Nero Recode, it first created the back up DVD data on a temp. folder on my hard disk and once that was complete, it burned those files to the blank DVD5 which I had kept in the DVD burner. I assume this is the correct way of backing up. If not, please correct me. -
In that case, I can only assume Recode has done something with your audio. Try DVDShrink instead, to rule this out.
