    hi,

i managed to successfully backup (or at least there were no errors ) a dvd9 to dvd5 using dvdshrink (v3.2.0.15) & imgburn (v2.3.0.0)...

i can watch the dvd using kmplayer or mpc but not on the standalone player... using windows explorer, i can see both the AUDIO_TS & VIDEO_TS (and all vobs, ifos, etc) folders in the dvd...

has anyone ever experienced this?... how can i make it playable on the standalone dvd player as well as on the PC?... could there be some settings in dvdshrink or imgburn that i didn't set correctly?...

    thanks !

    In ImgBurn:

    Options/File System:
    choose "ISO9660 + UDF"

This format is compatible with both data and and video DVDs.

If the format is correct, the problem may be your standalone player.

Some older standalone players won't read any burned DVDs.

Some older standalone players are very picky about the media they read - try TY or Verbatim.

Some older standalone players will only read DVD-R or booktyped DVD+R.

In my experience older SONY players are particularly picky.

    hi all,

    thanks for the reply...

@AlanHK, will check on the option/file system settings...

@oldandinthe way & t0nee1, i'm using verbatim dvd-r and my standalone player is a 2-yr old LG, can't remember the model at the moment... it's actually a dvd recorder also... will try using another dvd from the same batch... the one having problem could be a faulty one...

the source that i'm trying to backup is a dual layer disc with abt 7GB... is there a possibility that i'm doing it wrongly?... dvdshrink should be able to handle it, right?...

thanks admin for moving the post... sorry about that...

In theory, your LG should be able to play your disc, but I have heard of recorders that only worked with -R or +R and it could be that you have a recorder that doesn't like -R. Give the disc to a friend who has a non-LG DVD player and see if it can play it. If so, I'd guess that your player doesn't like DVD-R. Verbatim is typically one of the best brands of media, so it's unlikely the disc is bad, especially since your PC can play it.

DVD Shrink is pretty idiot proof. You'd have to botch something while setting it up for it to not work correctly.

You could also install Daemon Tools, which will enable you to mount your ISO on a virtual DVD drive and play it as if it was burned to disc. If you do that and the ISO image plays OK, either your LG doesn't like your media or somehow ImgBurn is not doing something correctly. I think most likely it's an issue with your LG player.

It's most likely your player. DVD recorders are notoriously fussy. After a couple of years of heavy use they can refuse to play anything. I recently burned two identical blanks from the same file. My Panasonic DMR played one quite happily but steadfastly refused to play the other. Sometimes it will play a certain disc one day and refuse the next
