I picked up a JVC HR-S4800U S-VHS player cheap at the Goodwill. There was a tape stuck in the deck, and while I managed to open it up it and remove the tape, the same thing happened again when I tried to play a tape, so I’m going to have to have a VHS repair person repair it if I want to use it. Is it worth sinking money into repairing this model? What's its standing and reputation among S-VHS players?

It's a medium-end deck. No TBC, no DNR. Just a few audio/video filters, and a flying erase head. It's mostly good as a recording machine, if you're wanting to record S-VHS.
