I need help to buy a divx player (standalone player).
Which one will play avi format that has ogg. or mkv. container. i don't want to have to convert all my avi files to xvid to watch them.
I have a RJ-1500DVX player. It plays almost everything except for files with ogg and mkv.
    Can you update its codecs?

If you're looking for one that can play OGMs (note: Ogg videos are usually supposed to have the extension .OGM. .OGGs are usually supposed to be audio files.) and MKV videos out-of-the-box, there really aren't any out there, that I'm aware of. Most are usually fairly picky about the types of DivX/Xvid AVI they play, as well, so you might end up converting anyway.

(Also note: MKV and OGM/OGG are not the same as AVI - all three are different video container formats.)

Chances are, you probably wouldn't be able to update your player to play OGM/MKV, but I'll admit I could be wrong. It would have to be able to recognize the different format videos, though.

There are many players that can handle avi files, I don't know of any that play ogm or mkv. Players usually aren't updated to add/change codecs, what they support out of the box is what you get.

You will most likely need to go the HTPC route or at least convert all of your content to mpeg/avi/divx.
