I know the codecs that are in the video files I am trying to watch. I have them all installed through the latest version of K-Lite Mega Codec Pack. The Video codec is DivX5, have that, the audio codec is AC3 ACM codec. I have that as well. But for whatever reason, I justCANNOT get audio to work with the video. I dont know what to do. I've tried reinstalling my sound card driver twice, the codec pack 2 or 3 times. with different configurations. and I still cannot get the sound to work. I am possitive there is actual sound in the file because I encoded the video. Can anybody help![]()

As I said I have both The DivX Video Codec installed aqnd the Dolby AC3 codec installed. These were the two codecs gspot detected. And it was as I stated in my first message. I just cannot get audio to work no reason at all. I may have to try another video but I'd like to watch my videos too. If anyone else can help thatd be a great thing. The most recent version of the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (1.63) is installed. Gspot also reported several files missing even when I chopse to install them. These are the xvid.ax file and the mcspmpeg.ax and the vsfilter.dll files. I installed them and dont know how they disappeared. Could these files be why Im not getting audio?

The K-Lite Mega Codec Pack (1.63) may be the reason they disappeared. It has been known to destroy existing codecs and install incompatible ones. Many posts here on K-lite damages.
Try playing your file with VLC Media Player. It uses it's own codecs, so it's an easy way to test for installed codec problems. If it plays them properly, the tool you may need now is Codec Sniper to try to clean up the codec mess.

I think it may be that there may actually be no audio at all with this set of videos. Although I dont know how that is possible because Im pretty sure I encoded audio into them. Oh well. Thanks for the help. I may just cut my losses. Audio plays fine on my other videos.

I dont use VLC anymore. Because i learned that it skips a lot of subtitles. But I supposse I could try using VLC again. The player I'm currently using is GOM Player. Great little media player. But when I was trying to watch the video files I was using most recent version of media player classic. I will give it a try with VLC and post how it goes. Gspot does indeed say there is audio and that I have the necessary codec installed. I just noticed something strange. Normally I have windows to display which video codec and audio codec were used on a certain video in the summarry tab of the specific video file. However, for some reason the audio codec line is missing. Maybe this is why its not working? Because Windows Can't Determine the right codec? And should I go about permantely being the codec I know it is using a codec changer tool?

ok. I havent tried vlc yet because I have had to tend to my dog. But I should get 5.1 easily because I have creative 5.1 speakers and a Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer Card. However, I will try downmixxing. I will also see if I can get different videos of using the same codecs playing through normal 5.1. It should work because Ive gotten it to work before. But I will try both of your suggestions and report back.

I tried both downmixxing and using VLC. And the audio still refused to play. It may be for whatever reason that my sound card did not encode the audio the first time through like it was suppossed to. But Im extremely possitive Ive seen a few of these work with sound a couple of months ago. I am just confused as to what to do now. Because Ive tried other videos with the same codecs and they all play stupendously. I think I may just have to cut my losses. Before I do that is there a way to force change the audio codec description that windows detects and uses? I decided that before I completely give up. That I am going to demux the audio file from the video try transcoding to mpe. And then see if there is indeed audio. If there isnt I know I'm screwed, if not then I can re transcode to ac3 while making sure audio does indeed get encoded properly. I still dont see how I fd this up in the first place. Because Im careful when it comes to encoding video and audio. I have more than 5 years experience as well. I'm just baffled. I will try and do what I think may be the problem and report back here. Thanks for all your help. Will report back as soon as I am able.

I just learned through looking through some dialogs of VLC Media player while playing the AC3 file that it was encoded with the A_52 SPDIF codec. But thats not even possible because I dont even have a SPDIF. How do I get future encodes or retranscode this one to 5.1 surround without the SPDIF setting? I dont have A52 through SPDIF. I just dont and VLC is telling me that was the codec used. I might endp up being a complete moron but is SPDIF required to get true 5.1?

Ok. I know my answer now about the audio and wether it encoded or not and the answer is no. I get 23 and some seconds of no sound what so ever. So Somehow I screwed up in the first stage. Or the encoder I used was just plain crappy. I cant even remember which one I used. Can anyone reccomend a good AC3 5.1 encoder that is free and hassle free? That'd be a great help. And I'd still like to about wether a SPDIF is needed or not to get true surround sound. I have never known even with my several years of experience. Also because I pblly wasnt brave enough to ask such a stupid question. If anyone needs to know my computers sound card make its a Sound Blaster Audigy Gamer 5.1 card. Creative Labs or the audigy website doesnt even make any updates for it anymore or whatever and i cant even find info on it at the site so my belief is that it is EOL. Is there a reccommendation to upgrade my sound card? My belief is that my sound card is at least 6 years old. I never bothered getting a new sound card because it is still working 100%.
