I have a 1080p WMV movie that has black bars at the top and bottom that contain subtitles that I don't want. I've tried using VirtualDub-MPEG2 to crop the video and save it as an avi but the audio in the resulting file is horribly out of sync. Is there any other program that I can use to crop the video?

You might try saving out the audio as a WAV in VD-MPEG2, then add that back in before converting the video and audio to the AVI type format. That works with MP3-VBR audio to solve sync problems, but I've never tried it with WMVs.

That didn't seem to work but I'm not sure if I did it right since I'm new to this editing/conversion stuff. I loaded the WMV in VirtualDub, went to File->Save as WAV, then Audio->Browse for Audio... and selected the WAV file and then saved as an AVI. The resulting file still had audio that was out of sync.

Sorry, I should have referenced a guide: http://members.dodo.net.au/~jimmalenko/ExtractAudio.htm The most important part is to use full audio processing when saving out as a WAV.

Also what type of sync loss? Does it drift off gradually or does it have the same error the full length of the file?
The first is common with VBR type audio, but can also be caused by corrupt files or missing frames. Usually the video and audio playing time is different. One would need to be adjusted for length. The second just requires a simple offset of the audio, which can be done in VirtualDub.

I tried setting Full Processing but it gives me an error saying "No audio decompressor could be found to decompress the source audio format (source format tag:0162)." I'm able to play the file fine with audio in Windows Media Player but in VLC Player I just get video and no audio. MediaInfo tells me the audio is Windows Media Audio 3.

Also the audio starts in sync but its out of sync by a few seconds within a few minutes and it get worse from there.
