  1. can we crop a wmv file with virutaldub mod? if not with what soft can we do that? i want to cut some portions on top and bottom of the video where i see some texts( advertisements). it is not on the video. so i think with croping i can avoid the ads.
    i would like to ask the learned people what is the difference between virtual dub and virtual dub mod? thanks

    Use virtualdub with the wmv plugin, http://home.comcast.net/~fcchandler/Plugins/WMV/index.html

    Crop under Video->Filters and add the null transform filter and then click on cropping button.

    You could crop most WMV formats with the newest VD versions if you add the WMV plugin, but you would have to output in a different AVI type format. With VirtualDub Mod, you would need to use a AVISynth script to open newer WMV formats. VD Mod is an older modification of VD 1.5 that can open MPEG and a few other video formats, but it still outputs a AVI type file.

    If your final output is going to be WMV, you could output as DV-AVI in VirtualDub, and put that back into Windows Movie Maker and convert back to a WMV format. But there will be some quality losses in the conversions. Probably better ways to do that, but I rarely use WMV.

  4. In VirtualDubMod try the DirectShowSource() template at the bottom of the Open Video File dialog. AviSynth must be installed.
