  1. I'm trying to convert my Xvid files to WMV so I can stream them via the Xbox 360 using Media Center. However, I'm not quite sure on what settings to use for a particular file.

It's an Xvid file at 960x528 resolution and 23.98 fps. My Xbox 360 and my TV are set up for 720p. Here are my questions for converting this file to WMV:

    1) Should I keep the resolution the same? The 360 is able to play HD WMV files so I definitely don't want to downconvert. But should I upconvert to 720p or just leave it at 960x528?

    2) Do I keep the frame rate the same or do I change it to something else like 29.97 fps or 24 fps?

I've already converted it once at 960x528 and 23.98 fps and it looks great other than a general stuttering during scenes with motion. I definitely used a high enough bitrate so that's not the problem, so I was wondering if it's because of the framerate or resolution? I have other WMV files at higher res 720p that do not do this.

    Thanks.

VOBs with WME are easy. either encode them directly, or use VOB2MPG to extract the movie, then encode with WME.

HD Xvid is a little different.

A general rule of thumb: If at all possible - keep the frame rate thruout the process. Changing frame rate is bound to cause A/V sync problems.

Or use Transcode 360 or Tversity for realtime streaming from most video formats to the xbox360.

Right, I'm already using Tversity to stream to my 360 but my computer is not fast enough to transcode HD resolution files in real-time. So that's why I'm looking to convert them to WMV format first so that they don't need to be transcoded when streamed via Tversity.

Would one of the newer processors/computers be able to transcode a 720p file, for example, to WMV in real-time? I'm probably going to get a new PC soon anyway, but I wonder if even an X2 or Core Duo 2 would be able to do it on the fly? I have a P4 2.6 right now.
