As the title of this thread suggests, I'm attempting to capture video with an x1800gto by sapphire using nero vision express 6. I am using the drivers that came with the cd. The video card is part of a pc I assembled for my father. I can only use Nero, as I do not have access to the internet to find another capturing program, and it is very straightforward, a necessity for my father. When in nero smart start, i click capture video, and i just get a blank screen. The capture device selected is listed as the ati t200 avstream. I've read that this driver does not work well with nero. Vlc media player is able to capture video from the card, but I need nero to be able to as well.

I read around, and some suggested that the t200 driver in catalyst drivers since the early 6 versions is responsible. I tried forcing the NSP-WDM driver, but when I attempt to capture video using that driver, nero and vlc just lock up. So, what are my alternatives? I need to either make nero work with the card, or find a free, easy to use software that will capture from the analog source to mpeg-2 video.

Describe what you mean by "capture". The x1800GTO is a display (output only) card and has no capture or MPeg encoding capability. You need a sepatate capture card like the ATI "TV Wonder" line or swap the current card for an All-In-Wonder.

my bad, I forgot to mention that it is a VIVO card, and has the appropriate input cables. I've tried both a gamecube, and a vcr. Using the default driver that recognizes as the avstream, vlc will let me view the source(vcr or gamecube) on my monitor, nero however shows a blank screen, with a message below that says either "no analog signal detected", or it's just blank. Also, there's a question mark next to the capture device selection, as if it isn't installed correctly, or nero doesn't know what it is.

Have you tried using MMC 9.08 to capture?

Do an ATI Knowledgebase search for Vivo and you will see pages of "issues".

I'll try ati's mmc, but my intention was to get nero working so that my father wouldn't have to learn too many programs which increases the potential for him to become confused.

Maybe someone has a X1xxx series Vivo card and can comment on drivers and third party support.

I'm not sure how to install the multimedia center, one of the pieces checks for an ati install cd, but the sapphire disc I have doesn't validate. So, i skipped that part, installed the other 3 parts, and restarted, but mmc is nowhere to be found on my pc. So, not sure what to do next.
