I'm trying to back up a DVD with aspect ratio 1.85:1 - i.e. slightly wider than 16:9.
All appears to rip correctly with Smartripper (which says 16:9* in its summary window). However, when I try and convert the resulting ripped (vob) files to divx4, it comes out in what looks like 4:3 aspect ratio whatever settings I use. This happens with DVD2AVI, DVDx and XMPEG.
Am I doing something stupid at either the ripping or conversion stage ? Any help appreciated.
cheers.

hrm...you sure the source aspect ratio is 16:9? some widescreens are 4:3. smartripper is really, really not to be trusted in indicating source aspect ratio. try using dvd2avi to find out.
