You can make a video-CD also known as VCD. In North America only some DVD players will actually play it, it's a more common format in other countries.

What is VCD is right over there <<<<<

Your other option is to actually author vcd onto a dvd. You can do this so long as the audio is resampled to 48khz instead of 44.1khz that is the vcd format (dvd requires 48khz).

The easiest way to do this is to use a author program like tmpgenc dvd author that will open the vcd mpg file. Then it will convert the audio to dvd spec for you during the authoring process. Then it will function like any other dvdr you've burned. Plus you'll be able to fit way more on a single or dual layer dvdr than you would on a lowly 700mb cdr.

The first rule is what the chosen player is capable of playing ... then discuss the possibilities

The second rule is defined by what the question is ... it envolved cd ... not dvd .

So what you end up with is ... and again , this relies on the player's capabilities .

    Divx or xvid
    Mpeg1 or mpeg2
    Mpeg as vcd
Mpeg as minidvd (dvd on cd)

    -------------

Then you need to make a choice of size vs quality ... too determine if you are to use 1 or 2 cd's in the process .

You'll want a tool like fit2cd to help you here in determining certain values for the final choice .
Virtualdub and virtualmod , plus xvid codec to compress to xvid .
Super is becoming a very handy tool ... just lacks a few feature's ... but can help with problematic clips that refuse to be re-encoded .
    Besweet , convert audio to ac3 ... in reference to mindvd's .
    Imgburn will burn minidvd's .

There's a trick to creating minidvd's using dvdauthorgui and pgcedit ... simple .

Vcdgear or vcdeasy for vcd's .
Dvdx dose dvd to xvid , and more ... been updated

If minidvd need's shrinking ... dont use dvdshrink ... it'll screw them up .
Shrink it using rejig only .
