I had too think about this one ... downloaded it the other day , and did a complete system reload and forgot to backup the links from mozilla (forgot to transfer the html after exporting it ... brain on strike ... bloody ms refused me to activate ... took 3 gose) .
Here : http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/OS-Enhancements/Vista-Transformation-Pack.shtml
Safe ... dont know that yet , but I would say at a guess from what is contained within it require's you too have the latest update's installed ... this would mean sp2 as microsoft has declared it will support only those running sp2 ... without it , you cannot install the required update's to use the package ... I could be wrong ... just what is being reported .
Strange how my old win98se system managed to download windows media player 11 from ms the other day ... just couldnt be bothered with ie7 ... it said over 100mbs ... yet for registered xp with sp2 it was only 8 mb's ...
--------
You could do it the old way ... make a backup first before doing this stuff ...
http://www.winmodify.net ... skins , bootscreens , icons , desktop ... and more . -
Caveat emptor....
This "pack" clearly contains Microsoft intellectual property (i.e., pirated - so Microsoft *could* sue you and/or prevent your XP system from getting updates etc) and it messes with your existing system's OS files on a very fundamental level....
Personally, I'd think you'd have to be insane to install it on any computer that matters to you.John Miller -

Here you are a screenshot of the final result, I guess is working so well because I previously installed Windowblind, including Vista_Visual_Styles_Pack_5.0:

These install of any XP system with or without service packs and are in my opinion
the least resource hungry and easiest to install/uninstall.

It was an experiment just to see how good the package is. I must admit that the colors were hurting my eyes, the eye candy is too sweet for my taste, so I went back to my former system configuration thanks to the backup I had made.
This is how my desktop looks now using the package that deckard8 mentioned above:

Too bad. I was hoping this "transformation pack" would transform windows into a better OS.
Drats!!! -
I was installing this in safe mode but came across something I didnt understand so I bailed out.
the option was either:-
apply vista UI transformation to system
apply vista UI transformation to setup files
what do I choose?
I didnt go further than that, is there any other complication questions coming up? -

If you were able to make an image of your system for quick restore, you could just experiment till you have it right, or stop by the site who released the package, they have a forum, and I am sure they have more experience.
