I constantly have trouble with DVD-RW wearing out. I do daily website file backups and store them on DVD-R and DVD-RW.

Are your discs new or have you been using them for awhile?

Update the drive's bios ... and try different brand of media .

You can alway's run into problems when the basic's aren't followed .

    1: Dvd-r
    2: Burn at 4x
    3: No more than 4.3gig
4: Not all media is good ... you can get an odd batch turn up under any brand name that's crap .

    Console's like + ... but alot of dvd home player's dont .

Rewritable's update each time they are inserted into the pc's writable drive ... a possible place causing issue's with disc's failing .

I've tried new and used dvd, i also updated my firmware.
Is there any other updates i should make, also i've just put in another 128mb of memory,as i kept on getting pop up saying vitual memory is low, so i was wondering if that could be the problem.
    Any thoughts

Could be the drive is bad. But before you replace it, try cleaning the laser lens. They make a cleaner disc for that, or you can go in with alcohol and a soft cloth and gently clean it.

  6. Media ID = PRODISC.R04

That's not the best DVD+R 16x media to use in a Lite-On 165P6S. As others have stated - try different media. You're in the UK - try some Verbatim from SVP - expecially with a YUDEN 00T03 media id. Any Verbatim DVD+R 16x will be a better match for that drtive however.
