Just today TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 started encoding all my AVI files (AVS files too) as black (no video). Earlier today it was fine. No problems with QuEnc or VirtualDub, just TMPG+. I didn't change any settings. Below is what my Environment Options VFAPI window looks like:

Any suggestions? TMPGEnc+ is the only app giving me these problems. And it's my favorite encoder! I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program, but that did not work either.

    hey,

i had the same issue. Then Quenc and vdub followed suite.

I found a bunch of tools by ImTOO that seem to work pretty well, except they aren't freeware.

Good luck, and I look forward to the answer as well.

You said this just happened today so forgive me for asking what may seem like a logical thing to do but did you actually shut down the computer and then turn it back on ... and no I don't mean a restart either.

If you haven't done that yet then do so.

Otherwise I don't know ... maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling TMGPEnc Plus.

Try raising the priority of the DirectShow Multimedia FIle Reader so that it is at the top of the list and then try again. According to https://www.videohelp.com/tmpgenc.htm#problems , it could also be VBR MP3 in your source causing the issue.
    If in doubt, Google it.

    OK this has me stumped.

Fulci: No offense taken. I did already try a cold start (not a restart) and an uninstall/reinstall of TMPGEnc+ 2.5. It didn't help.

Jimmalenko: Tried raising DirectShow Multimedia File Reader priority to 2. No change. I'm sure it's not VBR MP3 audio, as this audio was captured from my DV camcorder along with the video. Vdub reports the video as being 48kHz PCM Stereo audio. TMPG+ also does this with files with no audio. Very strange.

Any other suggestions? Maybe installing FFDShow would help?

I don't know what to tell you ... I'm one of "those people" i.e., I've never had trouble with TMPGEnc Plus and never had to muck around with the Environmental Settings to get things to work.

This on two different computers (the first using Win98 SE then WinXP ... the current computer with WinXP).

    Maybe I'm just lucky.

    Wish I could help.

Sorry, I have to ask this: Are you sure it's not a playback problem? Have you tried VLC Media Player to rule out a codec problem?

I mean there has to be something that changed. You might try a restore to a few days before the problem started to see if that helps. But a black screen sounds like codecs or overlay settings in your video card. But I have no idea why only TMPGEnc videos could do that.

OK guys, I feel really stupid now. Somehow I set my preview options to "Do not display". I was assuming that if it was showing me black video on the preview that it wasn't encoding anything. I was wrong. All is well again.

    Thank-you for all your help.

I had this problem a long while back , I seem to recall that I had adjusted overlay settings in Media Player Classic , the other things that were looking like culprits were my sound card drivers , my ATi drivers and a bit of software that locks the frame playback rate but whose name eludes me (this is all my notebook says sorry , it doesnt mention which it was and Ive got no chance of remembering but my money is on the overlay settings) .

Edit in - I`ll leave my post above as just info , you posted sucess while I was typing in , have a happy holiday

Don't feel bad, CogoSWSDS. I've done similar myself and about tore the computer apart trying to find the cure.
