I just completed construction of a 50 unit apartment building and wired it with RG-6 homeruns to basement. CATV brought cable to basement. Now they are saying that our wiring is inadequate and that we should have used RG-11 and that it is going to cost a lot of $ for them to re-wire, boost, etc. 4-stories, longest run 350 feet. Then the Dish guy says it's just fine! Any leads, adivice, links welcomed! Has protocol changed or am I just getting CATV run around?[/list]

350' thru RG-6 is quite a long run. At 750 Mhz you can expect to lose about 6 db per 100'. With a typical tap output of 20 db you'll be hitting the apt right around 0 db. This is fine, if you don't split it at the apt. A 4 way split will drop each leg 7 db, and you start getting 'out of spec' on your levels. Most modern equipment will operate down to -15 to -20 in analog before snow is objectionable, but due to QAM and other modulation techniques digital may need higher levels. Especially because cable companies usually put digital on the higher frequencies. CATV is usually designed for 0 db at the receiver.
