I have two new DVDs that I made from video capture (from VHS cassettes of home movies) on new Sony DVD burners. They play with ease on my two home Sony DVD players and the DVD players on my PCs. The disks are new - played twice - there are no scratches I can see.

I have tried to copy them on Clone DVD2, B's Recorder and Nero. None of these programs will copy these two disks. The error report says "Data Error" or "Cyclic Redundancy Check" or "Read Error" or "Please Clean Surface and Try Again". I made 25 other DVDs from video capture in exactly the same manner that play and I can copy with ease.

I am cleaning the disks with Phoenix Microfiber Cloth and a CD / DVD cleaner that has no alcohol or detergents. I used Sony DVD-R disks to make the DVDs.

Why can't I copy these two DVDs?

    Thank you for reading this.

When playing a DVD, the player, software or standalone, can tolerate some minor errors, even a few missing frames, and you may not even notice. Copying is different. When copying a digital file, there are zero errors permitted.

That's the long way of saying you likely have a problem with your DVD media if you can't copy it.

There are a few less likely causes. One is a problem with your DVD reader, or your burner or reader doesn't like your brand of media. Media does not always stay consistent through a batch. Or more remote, your burning program is making a bad disc.

This is just a guess, though. But trying a different brand of media is the cheapest and easiest change to make. Since you apparently have newer burners, a firmware upgrade is not likely to help.

Try creating and ISO with DVDDecrypter, then burn the ISO with DVDDecrypter or your Nero.

If you can't create the ISO bc of the errors, make an ISO using MagicISO or ISOBuster - these programs should create the ISO while ignoring errors. Once you get the ISO - burn it.

If the errors are bad enough, you might not be able to play the burned images - but it's worth a shot!

    Thanks for the tips.
I used IsoBuster. It gave me a file called VIDEO_TS (of 3,252,724 KB) It contains BUP, IFO and VOB files. What do I do with this folder in order to reconstruct my original Video DVD?

What do you mean when you say ISO files?

    Thank you,

burn the contents of this folder in your burning app. choose "DVD Video" as the format to burn to. Nero has this option when you DO NOT use the wizard to compile your dvd.

If you rip your DVD using DVDDecrypter, you can sometimes recover from quite large errors (much larger than Window's COPY program can handle). I've had to do this a few times and I have had pretty good success.
