I have a video(720x576 PAL) recorded in 16:9 ratio ....
but the actual program is actually 4:3 in ratio.
That is... there are black bars on the left and right of the video.
I want to convert the video to a format that can be played on 4:3 tv...
that is remove the black bars on either side.
So I assume I have to use some kind of cropping??..or resizing??
But after cropping it has to be a valid size for authoring as a DVD...
...for PAL format ..ie 720 x576
Can anyone give me some tips or pointers???
I have tried AVIDEMUX...and it seems to have plenty of filters for resizing.

So using a cropping filter in Avidemux 2.3 I have conducted a small test
I can remove the side bars ....
this brings back the picture to 544 x 576 in size....
this is obviously not a standard size for authoring into a DVD
so I need to resize back to DVD size(Avidemux has a resize filter)
I am then lost as to how to get it back to 720 x 576 and
have the picture fill a 4:3 screen??
or do I need to do something else in the initial crop..to resize it?
any help appreciated.. -
So ..once again I have occasional video recording which is in 16:9 format.
but the actual picture source is 4:3.
It is PAL format ...720 x 576
So how do I remove the left and right side bars and then resize to fill a 4:3
screen with a 720 x 576 PAL picture??
I tried a test and just cropped to a size of 544 x 576 which is roughly
equivalent to SATV for DVD authoring purposes.
I have used AVIDEMUX as I said which has a number of resizing and croping
filters incorporated ...
Is that the best way ...or do I need to do a resize then crop??
to get 720 x 576 ..ie correct size for DVD authoring
or is what I'm trying to do ...not really possible or loses to much quality??
any pointers?? ...or am I in the wrong group??? -
Yes ..lanczos resizing filter is included.
Thanks for the prompt reply!
Did a 3min sample ...ie cropped bars out using crop filter
bought it back to roughly 526x574..
then using Lanczos resize filter ...resized to 720 x 576
of course then encoded as 4:3 source
and so far ..sweet....sample looks good!
now to redo whole length of 2hr video.
Thanks Abond!....I didnt think it would be that easy
This Avidemux seems quite good for this type of job....
specially with all the included filters
