hey guys i am new to the forum, i really hope i can find some help here on this major annoying problem! my gosh... i am so tired of this!!! i've had this problem for more than a month now, everytime i watch a video on my computer, no matter what video player it is, it starts to become corrupted like.. such as my monitor going black every 20 seconds or the sound starting to mess up too, it usually keeps doing this unless i close it to stop it.. if i don't close it then usually it becomes glitched with yellow and green lines and a weird look on it before it freezes my computer up

so i really really need to fix this because its to a point now where i can hardly watch a video on my computer of any kind without being in fear of it messing up or freezing!! please help me figure out what is wrong with it.. i've posted hijack this logs and nothing looked wrong to anyone, i have updated my video drivers already.. i have deleted random stuff on the computer that i thought may be causing it, yet it still is there!! AND it only happens when watching a video, not while browsing online or listening to music..

  2. Can you be more specific re. the type of videos - i.e., the format? Are they AVI, MPEG etc etc?

ummm... all video that i have tried so far, they mess up in windows media player, nero showtime and real player, to the point that i cannot enjoy watching any video without it messing up or freezing soon if i don't stop when it starts messing up.. so i would say most of the files are avi, mpeg and wmv

Reinstall DirectX v9.0c (do a search) and if that doesn't help, upgrade your video card drivers.

Have you installed any codec packs ?

well i guess the only codecs i had were divx... but that i got rid of yesterday because its the only codecs i could think of on my computer so i thought i would try that out, is this the codecs you are talking about?? i tried watching videos after but its STILL happening!!! i just tried a vid right now and like... it lasted about a minute then the monitor started to go black every 10 seconds for like a second each time... ugh :/ i will try to search on that direct X v9.0 thing since i don't know what it is.. and see if that helps with anything, but seriously this is pissing me off since its been here for like 2 months and only happens when i watch a video

You might try booting to Safe Mode and try to play a video. That should eliminate most drivers and other programs that are loaded during a regular boot.

If you have deleted and installed the latest drivers with no effect, maybe the problem is the video card itself? It may be running out of internal memory or has a flaw in it, or it's overheating. You can check overheating by pulling the side cover off the computer and blowing a desk fan in there while playing a video.

If you still have the same problem after that, you might think about replacing the card, or at least testing out a different card to see if that helps.

i just want to say thank you to everyone who has offered help and advice on ways to fix the problem.. finally the problem is fixed!!! even though it was none of the stuff mentioned here, what it was was the videocard itself.. i finally just got sick of it all and opened my comp tower, i took out the videocard and put back in my old one, and now that the old one is back in i have no more video problems, i guess its all okay though to have this old card since i hardly play games on my pc.. and i got that other videocard from my friend last xmas so i didn't have to pay for it or anything, i do wonder what was wrong with the card but maybe i wont ever find out now, i am just happy the video is back to its old good running self again!

  9. Ah yes, vid card overheating under "heavier" use as in games, vids, etc. Fan broke or dust in heatsink or just bad card.
