I was wondering how to make a audio cd unreadable without leaving behind any physical evidence? I'm being haunted by hearing Celine Dion's Christmas cd about 3 times a day and it will never stop until something is done. I want to make the cd unreadable but I want the disc to appear normal and without damage. Any idea how to do this? Thanks?

Boy, you are an evil bastard (but I like the way you think)!

Maybe you can make a small scratch on the BACK side of the disk. With a CD, there is a very thin layer of reflective material under the label that is very delicate. A small scratch on the backside over the inner tracks might make it unreadable. Make the scratch radial in nature and hide it (or them) in the title letters.

    Very sneaky, if it works.

you could try nuking it.. try it on a "test" cd first in 1 second increments until you get wanted results.. don't nuke it too long or you'll get a shattered effect on the underside

  5. Microwave the CD at low power for 2 minutes.

Read the original post. "...without leaving behind any physical evidence" is the key phrase in his post.

And 2 minutes? Try 1 second on HIGH.

LOL, I know exactly radial scratches are safe until they get 1 or more centimeters wide, tangent ones may help jumping between the tracks.
The most 'reliable' is to 'process' the lead-in area close to mounting centre, the disc won't be recognized by playback device. And it's easier to disguise those scratches there as they can be made circular and look like markings of the disc holder detail. Try it on something you like even less.

    1. Scan the label of the actual disc
    2. Print it to a blank "Printable" CDRW (RWs are more silver in color and will pass more as an actual silver CD than a CDR would.
    3. Put it in the CD case
    4. Enjoy the silence

I wish I thought of that last xmas. Had to listen to kids xmas music over and over til I couldnt take it anymore. Broke the disc when my kids went to bed the day after xmas. Felt bad but my ears loved the silence.

  10. This is one of the funniest topics on VH I've read.
I think 10 seconds on high in the micro is enough but she will find another one or worse*.

  11. Shame- and you're Canadian too! Scrooge!

My wife's got the X-mas music on iPod -> external speakers but at least it varies. Only a couple Celine's songs!

  12. "Accidentally" lose it... just the disc. Save the case. That way it looks like a real accident. She'll think it's in the other player/car. And since you still have the case, she won't want to go ahead and buy another one in hopes of finding the disc that goes with the empty case.

Determine how much heat & time it takes in a toaster oven to soften a disk. (abt 300°F ?)

Repeat with disk to be destroyed. Warp the disk very slightly by placing on a toothpick, and allow to cool. It should hold itself up 1 mm or so when on a flat surface.

    Should have much trouble playing.

Possible damage to playing device if too warped.

  14. Place the CD under a sun lamp, and watch it warp, then blame it on the SUN the mighty.
