  1. Sorry. I really tried... I looked everywhere… used the search… downloaded VirtualDub but as you see I’m not very bright…

All I could find was tool recommendations but I don’t understand VirtualDub at all…

Can you PLEASE explain it to me as if I was (was?) stupid?

I need to convert divx/a52 to xvid/mpga... also can I only convert audio? (divx/a52 to divx/mpga)...

Thank you SO MUCH in advance!

    Dan

a52 is, I believe AC3 audio. My first question, therefore, would be why do you want to change it to mpeg1-layer2 audio ?

To do anything in virtualdub with it you will have to install a suitable codec. AC3 ACM Decompressor is probably the better one to start with. I am also unsure as to why you would want to change a divx file into xvid. Both of these conversions will require re-encoding of the video and audio, leading to possible quality loss. And to no gain.

  3. I need to convert it because my dvd player does not support a52 or ac3 (mpga only), also some divx didn't work... re video, I got the best results with xvid.

My problem is that I don't know how to use VirtualDub... I open the video but how do i convert? Save as...?

    Thanks!

Look at your post. Click on the link that is Virtualdub. This will take you to the tools page. From there you can look at the list of guides, and start to do some reading.

  5. 1) Open your source in VirtualDub.
    2) Video -> Direct Stream Copy (to avoid reencoding the video).
    3) Audio -> Full Processing Mode
    4) Audio -> Compression.
    5) Select MPEG2/3 codec and parameters.
    6) File -> Save as AVI.

  6. Thank you very much guns1inger and jagabo.

I used to work with ffmpegX on Mac OS X and the interface of ffmpegX is SO much better...

jagabo, this is JUST what I needed THANKS!!

I got AC3 ACM Decompressor as guns1inger reccomanded and the convert starts but almost at the very end I get an error message... I'll try again...

    Again, thank you!

  8. I tried again and again... with several files... this is what I get (at the very end of the conversion):

Crash details (best guess as to cause)

An out-of-bounds memory access (access violation) occurred in module 'mpegacm'...
    ...reading address 00000034...
    ...while compressing audio (w32audiocodec.cpp:260)...
    ...while running thread "Dub-I/O" (thread.cpp:150).

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

  11. Anybody knows why I'm getting this error message? Do I need another version?

Try another AC3 filter and/or another MPEG audio compressor.

  13. Thank you very much!

But now when I select MPEG2/3 codec for audio, everything works but the resault is araw (in the audio codec) instead of mpga... why?

    Thanks again!
