I had to reformat my hardrive and reinstall windows and now when I have reinstalled the Hauppauge and WIN DVD Recorder. I can set the source to "Hauppauge WinTV PVR USB2 Encoder-TV", but the WINDVD doesn't show me the Channel tab on the settings menu and so I can't tune it to my signal (as a result the record tab is also missing).

    Any ideas anyone please!

I'm running Windows XP with version 5.02 B20 of WINDVD.

    Thanks in advance

Why aren't you using the Hauppauge WinTV2000 software? It works really well!

  4. Good point, but some people (for what ever reason) just dont like the Hauppauge WinTV2000.
I have tried several different programs and it worked with them.
However I always get it working with WinTV2000 first.

When I use the Win2000 i get a picture and sound, but the picture is all fuzzy.

Also I cannot specify the recording quality as well as you can with WINDVD. Its just something like Standard, Long and Extra Long. I want to specify the recording bitrate.

It used to work before my reformat and the Hauppagne website says it is compatible...

You can edit the profiles and/or make your own. For instance you can specify the resolution and you can specify CBR or VBR bitrates and when setting up a VBR profile you get to give the AVG and MAX bitrates.

So the capability you want IS there in WinTV 2000.

Great, I'll see if I can sort that out.

Any thoughts on why the picture image might be fuzzy tho?

I am using a RF cable input from my video recorder. (If I use A/V cables then the sound doesn't work).

Well sometimes the tuner built-in to capture cards is less than steller in quality. Some people get around that by using a cable box or a VCR as a tuner then connect the cable box or VCR to the capture device using standard A/V cables i.e., either composite or S-video for the video and standard RCA stereo jacks (the red/white audio plugs) for audio.

Sound not working , picture quality sub standard .

Picture quality degradation is caused by the mixed input's , video and audio should be fed into the pc using seperate inputs , such as rca .

You can purchase a cable that has two rca's on one end , and the stereo headphone jack on the other .
To connect the rca cable to the other from the playback device , you need a double ended rca adapter .

Connect the head phone jack via line-in only on the pc ... this will allow for better picture quality .

Make sure line-in is not disabled in the sound control panel , and speakers on ... if you here the audio now from playback device , it's all working as expected .

The software that came with the device is below par , even though it work's ... you should check the settings to see if it has the option to allow for audio captured via line-in .

When using rca input for the video ... in most products you need to set the input for video to VTR mode .

Use the vcr as the tuner , and channel controller ... it is superior to the inferior tuner prebuilt into the capture device ... and has alway's been .

Further improvement can only be made through vcr tuning , cable used to connect the device to antenna , and signal strength in local region .
