Hi, I am writing for my 10 year old son who is very tech oriented and is trying to make a movie for a school project. He downloaded some free mp3 music files and tried to used them in his Win DVD movie. Win DVD plays the files fine by themselves but when he attaches them to the video file they play like a series of beeps and bonks. Secondly, he tried to drag a .wav file into Win DVD Creator and it said the file was corrupted but it plays fine on the PC otherwise. Any help is greatly appreciated.

The first problem is that MP3 is not part of the DVD specification and wouldn't work. See 'WHAT IS' DVD to the upper left for the DVD specification.
WAV audio is compliant, though. The problem with it is it takes up a lot of room on a DVD. This is fine for a short DVD, but on a longer DVD it will force you to use a lower bitrate for the video, reducing quality.
For your MP3s, I would download the freeware ffmpeggui. You can drop your MP3 audio files in there and it will output DVD compliant AC3 audio. Very fast and easy.
If you wanted to edit your MP3 audio first, try Audacity, also freeware. It accepts MP3 or WAV audio and can output the same. You could filter and edit as wanted, save out a WAV, then run that through ffmpeggui for your audio.
Depending on your authoring program, you could add the video and audio as separate files during authoring. This keeps from re-encoding the audio and losing any further quality. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author for that as it can accept elemental streams of audio and video.
And welcome to our forums. -
Hi,
I have been messing around with different file conversions but with no luck. I used ffmpeggui to convert to ap3 but WIN DVD Creater 2 only allows wav mp3 or wma. I dowloanded some other software and tried converting the offending mp3 files to WMA and also tried to convert a MIDI file to WAV and none of it worked. I tried some of the sample music on my computer that is WMA and mp3 and both worked with Win DVD Creator.
Any ideas of where to go from here? -
I've been using 'Free MP3 WMA Converter' lately with good results.

I would convert to PCM 48,000kHz 16bit Stereo (Dvd Compliant).
You could try downloading those mp3s again. Maybe a damaged download(?).
midi to wav... I've did a few. I use my Creative media player/recorder to play the midi file, I can add/edit sound fonts and enviormental settings that makes most midi files sound pretty good, then dub with the recorder using 'what you hear' and create WAV. Very nice results. Most actually sound pretty real. lol
Good luck.
