Converting DVD to AVI, Original aspect 720x480, Source Aspect Ratio 4:3, length 1:37x. Default settings (at least that I am aware of) in AutoGK ( except, I enabled ESS support. Tried using XVID(1.1,1.2) and or Divx codec. AutoGk 2.27 and I upgraded to also 2.36 (both doing same)
When I load the DVD and select preview or even do the full conversion it spits out from the original picture a revised version in the size of 544x704
I tried it on 2 of my PC's and it does the same thing. I tried it in SimpleDivx with Xvid codec and with DVDX to avi and they come out normal.
Based on this, I am assuming it is a setting I have changed somehow in one of the programs Autogk uses.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Hi-
I tried it in SimpleDivx with Xvid codec and with DVDX to avi and they come out normal.
What's normal? What resolutions were the AVIs from SimpleDivX and DVDx? Please don't say 720x480, or some such.
Also, the AR in the pic shows it to be 16:9, yet you said it was 4:3? Or is that some kind of a default setting and doesn't apply to your DVD? -
Well, by normal I mean they look to be the same size or almost exact as the original. I have deleted the files that came from the other programs as I wanted to just see if it was the DVD or the program.
The settings for the screen shot are the F9 feature for the hidden settings. I left them as I found them, except the Enable ESS feature. As far as what the others ones do or don't do, I am not sure. I have converted about50 or 60 just fine and then I encountered this problem. I apologize that I cannot be more specific for your request on the finished resolution on the other products, as all I did was play it back on the monitor.

I don't think your complaint is entirely unfounded, but I was trying to get some more info. Since you dumped the others, though, I'm not sure in what way they were better. "Looking to be the same size" doesn't really say much.
The original is unresized 720x480. Resized it becomes 640x480 (if 4:3 as you say). You used a higher resolution in AutoGK. 704/544=1.294:1. Seemingly, 704x528 might be better as 704/528=1.33:1. Maybe there was some reason AutoGK chose that height, although I can't really be sure without seeing the source. Rest assured that the AR is correct. Things don't seem stretched, do they? Balls, suns, and moons are round aren't they. You can go into the hidden options and change some things to try and get a slightly different AR, if you wish.
- Sometimes auto crop used with default parameters by AutoGK cannot totally remove black bars or removes too much of a movie material. In this case "Tune auto crop parameters" is very handy. Threshold defines how sensitive auto crop will be: the higher the value the more cropping will be done. To completely disable audio crop you can set threshold to 0. "Number of frames to examine" is useful parameter to change if movie is a mixture of full screen/wide screen shots, so by selecting different frames that auto crop examines you can improve cropping process. "Starting frame" can help auto crop in situation when you have a full screen logo as a part of widescreen movie, in which case autocrop might decide that the whole source is full screen. By selecting a different starting frames you force auto crop not to examine irrelevant starting movie sequence. "Force cropping" option allows you to crop additional pixels after autocrop operation (if you find that you need to always crop several more pixels you can use this option). If you disable autocrop with threshold 0 then "force cropping" option becomes fully manual crop. Remember always to check how movie looks like after you set new auto crop parameters using Preview function of AutoGK.
Or maybe assign a width of 640 and see how it turns out. -
manono,
Yes, the video size is completely off. When I play it on screen 19 CRT 1024x768, the width after conversion is about 3 inches wide, at most. Its like it decided to cut the video width in 1/3's and only kept the middle third. I tried several different size combinations in AGK, and they all come out the same in the end.The height is normal. I decided to make another one from SimpleDivx and keept that one. I appreciate all of your time that you have spent assisting me, but I guess I'll just use the one from SimpleDivx.
