    I need to re-encode about 30 xvid avi files to get ride of GMC3 so that they will play properly on my Popcorn Hour A100 streaming video client. Most of the guides I've read suggest using AutoGK for this task and I'm able to successfully make copies using the "ESS Compatibility" mode. My problem is that I'm confused on how to set the size. The guides say "use same file size" but AutoGK just gives these options:

    * Predefined Size:
    - 1/4 CD (175mb)
    - 1/3 CD (233mb)
    - 1/2 CD (350mb)
    - 1 CD (700mb)
    - 2 CDs (1400mb)
    - 3 CDs (2100mb)
    - 1/6 DVD (746mb)
    - 1/5 DVD (846mb)
    - 1/4 DVD (1120mb)
    - 1/3 DVD (1493mb)
    - 2gb (max)
    * Custom Size
    * Target Quality (percentage)

    I had mistakenly assumed that if you selected a size (say, "2 cds" which was larger than needed, you'd end up with a file the same size as the source. However, my first attempt on a 173mb source file using the "2 cd 1400mb" option resulted in a file which is more than triple the size of the source, although still much smaller than the "2 cd 1400mb" size.

    What setting should I use to endup with files which are about the same size as the source?

    Is there a better tool for cleaning up xvids with incompatible settings than AutoGK?

    Custom Size set for about the same size as the source.

    In my opinion, no, not if you're unfamiliar with video encoding.
