I have a 6 month old sone that I want to make a DVD with his videos. If I had MPEGs for his whole life, I would be fine. The problem is that for the first few months I did not have the Camcorder. This means that I only have JPEGs for the first few months.

The way I imagine doing this is using MPEG-VCR and making my clips into one MPEG for 3 months, then make an MPEG for 4 months, etc. Then I would author the DVD with each of these as a clip on the DVD menu.

The question is this: How can I make a photo slide show for the 1 and 2 month periods? And then place this show on the DVD Menu? Can I make a Photo Slideshow into an MPEG? If so, problem solved.

What are you using for dvd software. There are many softwares available that allow you to bring your avi or dv-avi file into the timeline, and then add a photo slideshow to it as well, or you can just bring in the mpeg and add a photo slide show as well. It all depends on what software you are using. There are also various free softwares that will accomplish this, but they will require you jumping through quite a few more hoops to accomplish the task.

WMM does it all, doesn't take any hoops jumping (but crashes frequently, so save even more frequently!). When done, save out as DV AVI, encode to DVD mpg, author.

  4. To do what you mentioned, you most likely need these softwares : Photo slideshow, DVD encorder, DVD author, and DVD burning. A decent set will cost about $249.00 or more.

You also can use this direct DVD recorder to record the video + jpg, and burn into DVD, all at once. No PC and no softwares are required.

    You need:
    WMM $0
    Avisynth $0
    QuEnc $0
DVDStyler or DVDAuthorGUI or GUI for DVDAuthor $0
    ImgBurn2 $0

The only rough spot is encoding with QuEnc using AviSynth and AviSynth script, but it's really just a one-liner.

You can also use PhotoStory 3 from Microsoft. It's free You will also need to down load the Papajohn "NTSC DVD" profile he also has a High-Def version both of these are free search google.

I like PhotoStory 3 because it will create the transitions for you. You can then tweak the transitions as needed. The output is WMV

I then import them into Ulead DVD Movie Factory 5 (I am sure you can find any free program to do this too) I like DVD Movie Factory 5 because it will create a menu if you need to do this quickly. Otherwise you can output to MPEG DVD format and import it into your DVD authoring software.

There is only one setting you would have to edit in the PapaJohn Profile the setting is vbrquality="95" set this to 100

You can also use Microsoft Movie Maker 2 to edit your video.

Good luck and if you take this path let me know if you have any problems.
