  1. Ok, I have heard that Premiere (and other editing programs) recommend using avi files over mpeg in your projects. This has something to do with there being more info stored in the avi. Anyway, my question is : If you have an mpeg that you then de-compress to an avi using virtualdub, is this file suitable for video editing?

    Thanks,

The AVI (particularly DV) is preferred because it has had very little compression and therefore little data loss. The mpeg has already been compressed so the information is gone. Converting back to an AVI for editing purposes would probably not help. I would just edit in the mpeg format. While I use Premiere extensively, I would recommend Ulead for mpeg editing.
