  1. I have 5 VOB files that I would like to burn to a DVD. They are portions of the whole DVD. All of them together total 4.87 GB which is too big for my 4.7 GB DVD disk. I tried to use DVD Shrink, but it doesn't recognize the files. I do not know how else to shrink/compact the information in order to burn it. I have Nero 7. What do I do?

    Thank you in advance.

If all you have is the VOBs, you don't really have a DVD. See 'WHAT IS' DVD for the DVD format and specifications.

If you do just have the VOBs, you could use IFOEdit to create the rest of the DVD. Then, if the VOBs aren't corrupted, Shrink may be able to accept the new DVD file.

Alternately, you could extract the MPEGs from the VOBs with VOB2MPG or other programs, then reauthor the MPEGs as a new DVD.

  4. I am just asking for help to get the VOB files burned as one file to a DVD. I tried to use IfoEdit. I followed the step by step and I am getting nowhere.

The problem is, as redwudz pointed out, you don't have the files that explain what the VOBs are, and how they link together. These are the IFO and BUP files also found on a DVD. You can't just grab a few files and hope it works - it doesn't.

I suggest your best bet now is to download and install the demo version of Tmpgenc DVD Author, and use the Add Video function to import the video from these VOBs in a new DVD project, and create a proper DVD structure. It's simpler than IFOEdit.

However, if you have just grabbed random VOBs, there is no way to predict just what you will get out of them.
