How can I capture a specific length of video from a DVD movie and convert to either MPEG, AVI etc. so that it can be viewed on a PC?
Thanks in advance.

Ulead VideoStudio 9 or presumable greater has a DVD wizard that will import DVDs into it's full-blown editing/authoring package. I researched this topic for my friend who has a mini-DVD camcorder so that he could combine several mini-DVDs into a movie. It works fine for him. The bad news is that it has a fairly steep learning curve for a newbie, and VideoStudio 10 Plus costs $100. Prehaps a free trial version can be had somewhere on the net.
I am a newbie too, and perhaps a later post will provide a more satisfying solution. -
dvd shrink in reauthoring mode, set start and stop and save. you will get a vob that you can rename to mpg or vob2mpg.
fairuse wizard, set start and stop and save as divx or xvid avi.
