    Hi,

I'm looking for an all-in-one package that can do DVI capture, encoding / authoring to DVD, and burning, and also CD burning.

I'm sure all the big boys do it - Nero, Roxio, Cyberlink.

Any preference on what to choose? I'm running Vista Basic.

    Thanks

    Jukka

    Tools to consider:
    Adobe Premiere Elements
    Ulead DVD Moviefactory

Premiere elements has good DV capture, editing and encoding tools, but its authoring and burning is very limited (Video disks only). DVD Moviefactory has good DV capture, limited editing, but decent encoding, authoring and burning, plus it can handle writing various flavors of CDs. Its authoring is rather basic, but takes care of most needs. Ulead provides a free trial edition so you can give it a try. Good Luck!

They are not "the big boys" they are all-in-one mediocre tools. If you just want simple tools and average quality, by all means look at tools from these people. But if you want something that actually has some skills, is capable of producing quality output, and will grow with you, look at Premiere Elements or Vegas Movie Studio or Ulead Movie Factory. Don't use any of theese to actually burn, as you should test from your HDD before burning, and burn only with a good application such as imgburn.

Excellent quality isnt of major concern - this is mainly for converting DV of my kids, fmaily on holiday so that we can put it on DVD.

I guess really I am looking for a DVD authoring package that will burn and/or produce an image that DVD Decrypter can then burn.

    Thanks for your help

It will be once you spent hours producing something that looks like crap on the TV when you are done, which will most likely be the results if you use sub-par tools. Believe me, I've been there. Also consider this: not only will better tools give you better results, they will be more robust (i.e. don't crash) and most likely easier to use.
