I was wondering...
A DixV (.avi) movie that is ripped from a DVD has already lost its good quality... That's a fact.
If I wanna re-encode this .avi to DVD again, does it make any noticeable difference if I use 1 pass instead of 2 or 3 passes?

VBR encoding in CCE is 1+n. There is always an analysis pass, plus the number of passes you specify. In my experience 2 passes is a minimum for VBR in CCE. 3 passes adds a level of refinement that can reduce some of the mosquito noise that CCE can accumulate. After than I believe you are pretty much spinning your wheels for no real visual gain.
That said, unless you are doing a little clean filtering in avisynth or virtualdub before encoding withh CCE, 2 passes is probably more than enough.Read my blog here.

From a mathmatical standpoint (according to a stats person I chatted with once) doing more than 5 passes is a waste of time.
Any changes made after the fifth pass should be so little that it would make no visual discerning difference.
When I say 5 pass I do mean 1 pass + 5 passes for 6 total.
