I want to set the resolution to 480x576.

I know this is not a supported resolution but I am fed up with all this conversion stuff which does not bring satisfying results in the end. And I think/hope/believe that most DVD Players can work with any resolution. Its just that some programs (like MediaPlayerClassic) do not show the DVD correctly if I tell them that its 702x576 or 352x576.

IfoEdit does not allow me to enter own resolutions...

    Dvd-lab accepts 480x576 mpeg2.

Or else can you try use DVDPatcher to change the resolution in just the mpeg header, import and author and then change back to 480x576.

DVD Lab will do it if you allow non-standard resolutions in the project settings. I believe this is not the case by default.

Note : There are a few caveats

    1. You will be creating a non-standard DVD
    2. A lot of older players and some new player will either not play it back, or will play it with a distorted image

f you want satisfactory conversions and DVD authoring, encode and author within spec using good tools and processes. Thousands manage to do it without problems.

If your original source is SVCD it is necessary to first decode/resample audio to 48kHz and encode it again. Better to resample it in higher bit-depth (32 or 64 bit) environment (then return to 16 bit) if your video is a music program - that is why I don't recommend using SVCD2DVD program. By applying DVDPatcher (twice, you'll find the details in excellent guide for SVCD/DVD conversion at doom9.org) you'll be able to author in your usual application.
Test your DVD player before! (I believe most SVCD capable ones should 'know' how to stretch both 352 and 480 to exactly full line). My Chinese BBK-993 doesn't complain.
