NERO problems, won't reconise dvd burner

i have nero dvd software and cannot get it to use my dvd player. i just built this pc and took the dvd rom and dvd burner out of other pc but just purchased the burner about a week ago.
i know the dvd burner works
i put it in another computer and it worked
it will play dvd's and cd's
it will burn cd's using my old cd software
dvd-rom-master
dvd-rw-slave
when in nero i select the drive i want to use but it only allows me to select my dvd-rom drive which dosent burn dvd's and it trys to burn but can't
how can i fix this?

oh and the nero software came with my dvd burner

Which version of Nero, and what is your DVD burner? If you're using Nero 5, 6 or 7, check Ahead's site to make sure whether or not you're using the latest versions. Depending on how recent/new your burner is, however, you may have to upgrade to Nero 6 or 7 to get Nero to recognize it.

Edit: Can you access the drive normally everywhere except Nero?

Run Nero Infotool see if it shows up. You may have to set the burner to master and the dvd-rom to slave.
