I just finished editing some home made audio tracks and named each
Track01 Track02...etc... through Track30 as I saved each in WAV format.

Total time was 60 mins and space used was 330mb. Burned at 32x using Nero 7.

When I play the new disc the tracks are all in the wrong order. It didnt burn
them in the order of the filenames which is how they need to be. I attempted
playback using Winamp and Mplayer but same order appears.

Any ideas why this happened or how to get the tracks to burn to disc in the right order?

    Thanks
    Dave

Try using the alphabet instead of numbers.

eg. track A, track B, etc.

Because you have 30 tracks and the alphabet is only 26 letters you will have to double up on some tracks. eg. track Aa, track Bb.

    See if that works.

What order did it put them in ?

The naming convention you used should be no different to naming them alphabetically.

Also, note that alphabetically, it would order them

    TrackA
    TrackAa
    TrackB
    TrackBb

I do like this and it works:

Artist Name or CD Title -01- Track Name
Artist Name or CD Title -02- Track Name
Artist Name or CD Title -03- Track Name

    etc...

    BTW

    Let me make a guess...

    You had these tracks:
    • Track1
      Track2
      Track3
      Track4
      Track5
      Track6
      Track7
      Track8
      Track9
      Track10
      Track11
      Track12
      Track13
      Track14
      Track15
      Track16
      Track17
      Track18
      Track19
      Track20
      etc.

And it put them in this order:
    • Track1
      Track10
      Track11
      Track12
      Track13
      Track14
      Track15
      Track16
      Track17
      Track18
      Track19
      Track2
      Track20
      Track3
      Track4
      Track5
      Track6
      Track7
      Track8
      Track9
      etc.

Then, that's a simple misunderstanding between human (intuitive) sorting and computer (literal) sorting.

    Thanks for the fast replies.

Cornucopia...reason I number starting with 01 instead of 1 is I don't want the double digit single digit ordering problem to occur. That's not an issue but good suggestion.

I've done some more research here. It seems all of the tracks are in the right order EXCEPT the first and last. The numbering is in the right order too but song 30 is track 1 and song 1 is track 30.

I've also done a few more burn tests using an RW disc so I dont waste any more Rs. Interesting results. Looks like it has to do with how files are added to the project. I thought maybe it had to do with using CTRL-SHIFT to add all the files at once so I split it up. I used CTRL-SHIFT again....but this time instead of clicking 1 then 30 I clicked 1-16 and added...then 17 thru 30 and added. That burn it swapped track 1 for track 16.

I tried again holding CTRL only and selected each file one at a time starting with 1 then clicked ADD afterwards. That burn disc swapped Track 1 for 30 again.

I repeated the above add procedure again holding CTRL and selecting each track...but not to burn...just to observe how it added files to the project in the ADD line. Looks like everything stays in order but 1 ends up at the back of the line and 30 at the front. I copied this from the add line.

    "Track30.wav" "Track02.wav" "Track03.wav" "Track04.wav" "Track05.wav" "Track06.wav" "Track07.wav" "Track08.wav" "Track09.wav" "Track10.wav" "Track11.wav" "Track12.wav" "Track13.wav" "Track14.wav" "Track15.wav" "Track16.wav" "Track17.wav" "Track18.wav" "Track19.wav" "Track20.wav" "Track21.wav" "Track22.wav" "Track23.wav" "Track24.wav" "Track25.wav" "Track26.wav" "Track27.wav" "Track28.wav" "Track29.wav" "Track01.wav"

I could start out selecting Track30 first then 2,3,4..etc...and 1 last. That should work since it reverses the first and last...1 will end up first and 30 last.

OK...last burn just finished. This time I added 1 track at a time and clicked ADD each time so there is only 1 file at a time in the ADD line. Lets see what we have here... YEP! Song 1 is Track 1 and 30 is 30. You have to add ONE file at a time and Click ADD each time to get it to work right. Must be a Nero thing!

Between this issue ...and Nerovision errors or Neroburn errors that have required me to re-install Nero7 2 times already.... plus Nero VCDs and Even a Nero MPG2 DVD having momentary freeze problems during playback....I tend to concur....that Nero is NOT the best way to go!

Is Roxio any better...or shoud I go with another 3rd party authoring software for Audio CD and DVDs?

Windows has a shift-select bug that affects anything that uses the standard file load API. Try clicking on the second file in the list, hold down shift and click on the last file. Finally, hold down ctrl and click on the first file. Now click OK to load them. Now check the order.
