  1. i have downloaded several films lately which are in mpeg layer-3 format but they will not play in my dvd player, how do i convert them so thet they will play in a standalone dvd player?

  2. mpeg layer 3 is only for the audio compression.

    What's the video codec ? Divx, Xvid,.... ???

    Use GSpot to identify the codec

    Doubt it's because the audio is MP3. There's a utility to make most AVIs more stand alone player friendly - don't recall the name at the moment, as I don't download AVIs of unknown status, and make sure I do my own AVIs player friendly to start with! Maybe someone else who remember this utility?

    avirecomp is one tool that will ensure playback on standard Divx certified players. However, if you just have a standard DVD player, try DivxtoDVD, or it's payware (and much better) big brother, ConvertXtoDVD.

  5. that convertxtodvd is da bomb, not only will it easily convert your files but it automatically burns the dvd for you when decryption is finished.
