there are a few new settings for SP2 that aren't in CCE SP/Basic, such as "Sync with Video" in the Audio settings and "Rate Conv" under the frame rate settings, both are checked by default. is it safe to keep "Sync with Video" checked for all encodes? and when should "Rate Conv" be checked?

There is a freeware tool that supports CCE SP2 (all-in-one converters) and maybe it can help you in this

they made a lot of changes, most of them are critical, but I think it is more faster than SP1

  3. The rate converter just slows down or speeds up the video to match the selected framerate. Not the best solution. It's similar to Avisynth's assumefps().

oohh, so it actually attemps to convert PAL to NTSC or vice versa? it is kind of nice that SP2 now has resize, audio sync and frame rate converting options built in, but i'd rather do it the way i always do it (with avisynth).

i do my converting with avisynth, so should i just keep that unchecked?
also, what about the audio setting... would it be best to leave it checked?

  5. I don't know what the audio setting does, but I think it would just speed up/down the audio to match the new video duration when you select the rate conversion option.
If you know how to use avisynth (and I hope you do ), there's no need to use those CCE options. One thing, though. The assumefps command makes everything look faster/slower, depending on the conversion, so unless you're converting from 24 to 25 (or 25 to 24) frames per second, I wouldn't use it.
By the way; you should use another program to encode the audio, just let CCE do the video part. You'll get better quality using something like besweet, etc.

in the CCE user guide, it says that it keeps the audio in sync, even if you clip the video, but i never do this with CCE (i do it with virtualdub) so i think its ok to leave both unchecked.

i've used the assumefps command before (converting pal to ntsc) and it looked alright. what method of converting pal to ntsc would you recommend? dgpulldown?

  7. Hi-

i've used the assumefps command before (converting pal to ntsc) and it looked alright.

    I would guess you've used AssumeFPS(23.976).

Which is pretty much what hrlslcbr said about 24->25fps and 25->24fps being OK. I think he means that you don't want to convert PAL to NTSC with AssumeFPS(29.97).
