I've got some extra space on a DVD set and would like to stash a few files there for backup, while still being able to play the DVD on my player.

I habitually use Nero to burn, but it doesn't want me to do that.... when making "DVD video" it won't let me select any other files; if I make a "data DVD" and copy the VIDEO_TS folder and some other files, I'm warned it won't be a valid video DVD, and when I go ahead it doesn't play.

I had believed that video DVDs were the same as data, but it apears not.

So how do I add my own files to a video DVD? Obviously this is possible, I have several commercial DVDs with such on them. Doesn't have to use Nero, I'm happy to try anything else that works.

Create a DVD video so that there's the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, and then create a new folder to put the files in. I've done it in Nero and the resultant DVD plays perfectly.

If you're using Nero to author then burn as one process, then try just authoring to get the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders, but then create a data DVD dragging those folders over and then create you new folder.
