  1. Ulead MovieFactory 4
I’m having problem in understanding creating and naming menus. My project is three clips on the ‘timeline’. I have created a menu for these and named them. Clip No One I have divided into 7 chapters and these show on the time-line. Problem one is that sometimes I can get these to show as a menu but can’t always repeat this . . How, with the chapters on the time line do I get them to show as a menu and Problem two is ‘How do I give these chapters a name?’ I’ve struggled for hours. I have the book and the on line help.

Hit NEXT to get to the MENU step.

Then in the Advanced Settings, make sure you have Create Chapter Menu checked.

Then under the BIG menu picture, there is a Currently displayed menu: the pulldown here will have the Video Titles for the Chapter Menus.

  3. Thanks George,
Truly the age of miracles. The answer was so simple as is always the case isn't it?

What I sometime notice on this type of forum - not just this one but on any technical subject - the writer frequently fails to describe the problem clearly so that others can understand what is being got at. Therefor they fail to get the answer they are looking for.

Before posting my question I wrote it out in 'Word' and corrected it several times till I thought it covered my problem. Then copied and pasted. It must have been OK because I got an almost instant answer.
    Thanks.

  4. Further question on Ulead MovieFactory 4.

Having now created my project which is 1hr 47mins 4 secs. Intending it to fit on standard 4.7 DVD. In the programme I have selected ‘reduce size to fit DVD’ but it tells me that this reduced bit rate will still not fit onto a DVD.

    I’m puzzled as my stand-alone Sony DVD recorder will create discs of 1hr -1hr 30mins - 2hrs – 3hs etc.
Any advice on this one please?

You can customize your project/encoding settings by hitting that little gear icon, then Change MPEG Settings/Customize.

Under Video Settings, use Constant (or Variable) at 5000kbps.

For audio, select6 Dolby Digital audio (if available), at 224 or 256kbps.

These setting adjustments are in the Full Disc Creator version of MovieFactory 4. Some version do not have a Dolby Digital Audio option. For those, you will have to use LPCM or mpeg audio (but for LPCM Audio you will have to lower your video bitrate to ~4000kbps). Instead of LPCM audio, you can try mpeg audio, but keep in mind that some NTSC DVD Players can not play mpeg audio (most newer NTSC dvd players should be ok. PAL DVD PLayers should be fine with mpeg audio).

    George

  6. Hello again George,
Thanks for your latest and very clear advice. I followed this and did as required but sadly this still did not work. However you will be pleased to know that I used my initiative (I can still do that aged 72) and by trial and error I found one selection in that dropdown list that worked. I was so pleased I almost sent you a bottle of whiskey - by e-mail of course! I note that the handbook does not seem to explain this very well.

Gloom again in that after a couple of hours the burning of the disc stopped at 66% completed. I do realise that this part of the process can take a very long time so retired for the night. This morning at 07.00hrs (In UK of course) it is still stuck at 66% after more than 9 hours. I suspect things are not right so will close down and hope you can provide further advice.
    Many thanks. Mark

  7. A quick follow up to my last posting. When closing down the machine a previously unseen MovieFactory block showed up saying there was not enough space on the disc!!

Welll that explains why it stopped burning to the disc, but now I don't understand why the programme accepted the project after I had amended the encoding business. Mark
