  1. Hi all,

I've got a question for the group. I've downloaded my first movie and want to burn it on SVCD to play on my APEX1500 (with hacked firmware).

I currently have TMPGEnc 2.50. When I try to open the avi file I get "file not opened or unsupported" error message.

So, anyone know what the problem is? I can't provide any details on the avi file as media player does not show me any statistics for the avi file? (Frame Rate, resolution). I can play it using windows media player just fine and yes, I have the latest Divx 4.0 codec installed.

Can someone recommend the SVCD format converter I should use (TMPGEnc, CCE, DVD2SVCD)?

Settings for best possible picture quality? I don't care about how many disks are needed or how long (less than a day would be preferable)

    Pentium 4 1.8GHz
    512MB RDRAM
    80G 7200RPM HD

  2. Can anyone help me with their experience(s) in creating SVCD's from avi files. I've read all of the reviews on here, the howto's (I know how to do it), etc, but was just wondering if someone could let me benefit from their experience with the products mentioned above and settings in each product.

A humble thank you from a newbie trying to figure this out.

My guess would be TMPGEnc is giving you this error due to the fact that you dont have the proper DivX codec installed.

  4. Thanx NeWcS for the reply!

I think I have the right DivX codec. I downloaded it from DivX-digest. I think it might be a configuration problem on my machine.

I was able to successfully find the original avi file properties via Ulead Movie Factory. It's the DivX codec, 352x240, 29.97 fps. Still a mystery why Media Player doesn't report the properties either in the properties tab of the file nor the statistics in media player (Another indication of a DivX configuration Problem).

I've read all the tutorials on this page (DivX to SVCD foolproof cce etc..) and I'm wondering why I have to multiplex the audio using bbMPEG?

    Maybe because it's foolproof?
