I'm embarassed to say how many dvd coasters I have. My dvd backups play nicely till about 1/2 to 3/4's the way through then they start skipping every minute or so and always when there's a graphic intense scene. I tried multiple burning softwares and two different media Ritek 03's skipped, Sony 16d1 had write errors towards the end and never worked even worse they lock up my dvd player both are dvd-r's. What has finally done the trick was shrinking them down below 3gig usually 2.1 - 2.7gig rather than the 3.9gig I was doing, and they play fine with I'd say 90% of the quality on a 26" tv. I have a no name dvd writer 16x dual layer could it be the problem or is it more likely the media? It only took me about 40 dvd to try shrinking further doh. Oh the skipping dvd's seem to play fine on my pc.

A friend of mine was getting more than his share of coasters and when I watched him burning a DVD he was still working on various things whilst he was burning and that was his problem. He stoped multitasking and that solved his problems. It is also a good idea to turn off any applications running in the background whilst you are burning.

Another recommendation is to use DVD Shrink 3.2 to edit, shrink and encode as a single ISO file, then burn with DVD Decrypter.

I turn most things off I use dvd shrink not sure what version and burn with nero. Until I started shrinking to minimum size I thought maybe it was in the rip but now I'm fairly sure it the drive or the media more likely the media since the problem is steady and not getting any worse.

  6. It sounds like your problem is max bitrate related as opposed to file size related. Running the increased Shrink would reduce both. The key being that it stutters not just towards the end, but only in hi-action scenes.

Just for kicks try making a 4 gig file at a very low bitrate throughout.

Better media will solve a multitude of problems.

My dvd writer has failed maybe that answers my question or it's a coincidence. It made a couple clunking sounds and when I opened the tray it only opened 3/4's and the disk was all scratched up I put another one in and now the tray won't open at all. Ordered a Pioneer from Newegg. Just before this happened I burned a dvd and it played fine on a dvd player but my pc couldn't read it. We'll see how the new burner does with the old media.

I just took my old dvd writer apart to get the dvd out of it. You know those rubbery washers they put on the top dvd in the spool, heh thats what I found in it. I'm kinda glad I wasn't paying attention that night the new Pioneer fixed all my previous problems. I'm probably going to reinstall the old dvd writer for ripping, I haven't done that with the pioneer yet.
