  1. Hi & many apologies if this has been repeated (I have looked on the forums but not found the answer using the programmes I've got).

I have 3 avi's that I would like to put onto 1 dvd.

I have tmpgenc plus 2.5 & tmpgenc dvd author (as well as nero) ... will a combination of those do what I want?

I'm not too worried about menu's, but if the above programmes will do that too then all the better.

    Any help gratefully accepted

Yes, you can with what programs you have. Use a bitrate calculator and put in the total running times of all the videos combined. It will give you a bitrate. If the bitrate is very low, like 3000kbps or less you might consider 1/2 D1 format. You can see the specifications for it in 'What is' DVD to the upper left. <<<<<<

An easier way, though with possibly less quality is to use a program like ConvertXToDVD and just drop all three in there.

depends ..... do you want to put them on a dvd in avi format or do you want to convert them to mpeg2 (dvd format) and then author them as a dvd that will be playable on (almost) all dvd players?

I am converting them to DVD format (video_ts vobs etc.) ... Sorry I know absolutely nothing about bitrates, so I'm stuck on the first reply sorry

Yes, tmpgenc plus and tda will work fine.

Use the wizard mode in tmpgenc plus and select dvd and then just set the output size to a third of the dvd size and encode them. Add all mpg clips in tda.

Or just use DivXtoDVD or ConvertXtoDVD and add all avis and convert all directly to a dvd.

    edit: I'm too slow...

  6. Thank you very much - I'll try the first option & see what a mess I make first!

  7. Ok, here's another question ... I've got TMPGenc Plus 2.5, TMPGenc DVD Author, Nero & hopefully will be able to convert the avi's to mpeg2, then use DVD Author to turn them into the vobs etc.

At what stage, using TMPGenc do I add the extra avi(s) or mpeg(s) to make a "mini" compilation to put onto dvd?

You encode the videos in tmpgenc plus first. You can do this one at a time, or in batch mode. You need to work out the combined runtime of the three videos, then use a bitrate calculator to determine what bitrate to use. Use the same on all three.

Once you have all three encoded to DVD compliance, you can use tmpgenc dvd author to bring the three together as a single DVD.

  10. If my avi's are all VBR, do I need to convert them to CBR in order to make a DVD out of them?

This is my first attempt at any of this so I am clueless at the moment.

What is VBR - the video encoding, or the audio encoding ?

VBR MP3 can cause problems for some encoders. Best bet is to use Virtualdubmod to save them out as uncompressed wav files, then load these into your encoder as the audio track.

VBR encoding of the video is not an issue.
