Did you buy it new recently or is it used? Older PVR150s have a known issue with loud audio. Google 'PVR150 loud audio' or something similar to that and you should get what you need.

BTW about a year ago I purchased a PVR150 that had the loud audio and I was not successful in finding a fix so I had Hauppague replace it with a PVR250.

The Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 has two main issues.

1.) Too Loud Audio when using the Line In Input. Audio often also gets "clipped". This does not happen if you are using the RF input.

2.) Hot Bright White. Oversaturates any image with a lot of WHITE or BRIGHT parts in the video.

I understand that Issue 1 has supposedly been resolved just recently with the newest driver release. Issue 2 is still an on-going problem.

I suggest you check out the forums at the following website:

    P.S.
If you can still return your Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 I would do so and then buy the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 intead.

There is a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 and a Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250 MCE with the later being for Windows MCE.

Since you said you have the MCE version of the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 150 then I assume you have Windows MCE so you should get the MCE version of the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250.

Here is a link ---> CLICK HERE

If you don't have Windows MCE then you should get the regular version of the Hauppauge WinTV PVR 250.

Here is a link ---> CLICK HERE

The MCE version has a dedicated S-Video input and a dedicated Composite video input along with dual RF inputs. It also has the "standard" Right (red) and Left (white) RCA Stereo jacks for audio input.

The regular non-MCE version has a dedicated S-Video input and a dedicated Composite video input along with a single RF input. It does not have the "standard" RCA Stereo jacks for audio input but rather uses a "mini-jack" which is actually more a standard on capture cards than the RCA Stereo jacks. The card comes with an adapter to use this type of input plus such adapters can easily be bought at any specialty computer store or audio store ... Radio Shack comes to mind for instance.

Other than the interface the two cards work more-or-less the same although as you can imagine the MCE version only works with Windows MCE. The regular version is for the other non-MCE versions of Windows although I think ... I do stress think ... that the regular version will work with Windows MCE.

As I already stated one of the best resources for the Hauppauge WinTV PVR series is the SHS website.

Again the link is ---> http://www.shspvr.com/

    Good Luck !!!

    P.S.
Hauppauge also makes a regular non-MCE and a special MCE version of the WinTV PVR USB2 which is an external USB 2.0 device that works essentially the same as the 250 model except of course the 250 model is the interal PCI type. Otherwise they do have the same hardware and work the same.

The too loud audio issues of the PVR150/500 have been fixed recently by Hauppauge.
But seeing how much time and effort was wasted with this issue, it is really really sad.

I have to agree the PVR250 is the better card.
The PVR150 CAN work well but it has still many issues compared with the older 250.

I guess lot's of people are using those cards (150/500) without knowing how buggered the audio of the line-input really is.

    Hello

As I recall you once posted the following images over at the shspvr forum:

    WinTV PVR 150

WinTV PVR 150 (using a different driver than the one above)

As I recall you said that the driver that produced the good or proper results also had the audio issue etc.

I guess my questions is this ... has this "too bright" issue been fixed yet? If not how "bad" is it with the newest "audio fixed" driver?

The "too bright" issue has never been solved/explained really, some people still have that problem occuring.
I don't really think the latest drivers make much difference.
    See here:

At the moment the card works really great for me ONLY WHEN I USE A EXTERNAL S-VIDEO SOURCE!!
The composite input quality is just awfull because of comb filter issues!
(the built in tuner also uses the composite connection)

  11. I just installed the latest drivers available on SHSPVR (Lite CD Release 2.0.43.24108 is ready for download) - my sound having "TOO LOUD" issues are gone!! Followed the instructions to a T and everything looks good now. I haven't tested VHS caps with bright white in them (outside shots - people wearing white t-shirts or bright clothing) yet - have more testing to do... Will post more later.
