Hey, im looking to encode a 177MB asf file to mpg. My computer is a Pentium 3 450 with 384MB of ram. When i try and start the encode it wants 12 days. Is this about right? i mean i know my computers not the newest or anything, but 12 days seems like a bit much. (for half a movie, then theres the other half).
Any other programs anyone would recommend

Yes it gives incredibly long estimates for most asfs, if I were you'd i'd get a different version of the movie and encode, because asf is a little hard to manipulate and edit

open v dub v 1.3c
Save asf as an avi then encode the new avi, should take only 3-8 hrs
