  1. I've captured some VHS tapes using my Hauppaug WinTV-PVR-USB2, and I set the res at 352x480 (thanks to recommendation from digitalfaq.com) and captured to Mpeg2 @ CBR 8000kbps... but now I am re-encoding w/ TMPGenc to add some filters (color correction/noise reduction/etc...) and place it in a format so that I can burn it to a DVD.

When I select the ouput source option page it allows me to set the Res to anything... should I keep it at 352x480 or should I use a higher ressy like 720x480?
It also lets me adjust the bit-rate, it suggested VBR, but I captured in CBR...
What settings would be optimal for my re-encode?

I am a newb, and very confussed

I would recommend keeping all of your settings the same as your capture setup (disregarding the filters your applying of course). No need to introduce new problems. If you capped in halfd1 make your output file halfd1. Keeps things nicer in the long run in my opinion.

If you will be re-encoding a capture then you should use 720x480 and do the capture at 15,000kbps. That will totally MAX out the capture quality.

This is what you want ... best quality capture possible ... if you will be re-encoding.

If the target is 352x480 I would still capture at 720x480 and resize when you re-encode.
