    Hey!

I wasn't sure where I should post this, here goes...

I was given a DVD-R which had been recorded on a standalone DVD player, but when I try to play it in my DVD player standalone OR on my pc's DVD burner, it acts as if the disc is blank. So I'm guessing that it hasn't been finalized?

Is there any way I can try to fix it on my DVD burner by finalizing it or anything? Or any software I can use that will be able to read the disc? Or is there no way?

    Thanks 8)

You can probably tell by the data side (purple side) if it's been written to - look for the inner part of the disc to look different than the outer part - but, yes, you need to finalize it if it hasn't already been finalized. The problem is, discs usually have to be finalized in the same model device that wrote the disc in the first place. I suggest giving it back the the person who gave it to you and asking them to finalize it for you. Do not try to finalize it yourself unless all else fails.

I had that problem once. I copied the disk on the PC and the backup worked fine.

ISOBuster can be used to get the data off, and DVD Decrypter has an option under the Tools menu to close a disc.

    Ok.

About 1/3 of the disk is a different colour, which means it has been burnt on. So that bit is fine.

However, when I try getting the data off into an image or while using ISOBuster, it has ALOT of unrecoverable read errors. I even tried using nero to copy the disc but the new copy did exactly the same thing .. nothing.

I tried fixing it on my own (with all of your much appreciated help, ofcourse) and didn't succeed so I'll have to get the dvd either finalized in the original recorder or just have a new copy made.

    Thankyous all

UPDATE: I used ISOBuster and put the contents of the disc on my HDD, eventho it had alot of errors I tried opening it with VLC player and then I could watch the video! It took some time but I finally got it to work!
