Hi, I have this really weird problem. I just bought a maxtor personal storage 3200 320 GB hard drive and I store my dvd movies on there. I used clonedvd2 to copy the dvds to the hard drive. When I tried to burn a tv series to dvd using clonedvd2(there are 6 discs in the tv series) I burn the discs using clone dvd2 and it works fine but....when I try to play the discs, all 6 discs play fine until the last ten minutes on each disc. The last ten minutes freeze up and dont work. I tried playing the original disc and there were no problems. Then I tried copying the disc directly (not from the hard drive) and I tried playing it and there were no problems. There are only problems watching the last ten minutes when I burn from the external hard drive to a disc. Also let me mention that I tried playing the dvd files on my external hard drive with win dvd and they played fine too with no problems. It is only when I burn from the hard drive to a disc that I have problems watching the last ten minutes which freeze up. It is not the media because I have tried using memorex and verbatim and both burn fine with my NEC ND-6500A with 203D firmware but when I try to play them, the last episode either freezes up/doesnt work but when I burn using my desktop dvd burner, NEC ND-2100 AD with firmware 103D all the media burned successfuly and the very last episode and/or the last minutes of the dvd do not freeze up when I burned with the ND-2100 AD, however when using the laptop burner, the ND-6500A, that is when the last episode on the dvd is unwatchable and/or freezes. So can someone please help me ASAP because I have wasted numerous dvds already and dont want to waste any more!!!

I am desperate for any help and need it ASAP. Thanks in advance.

Playback issues ont he last 10 - 20 minutes of a disc usually indicate poor quality media being used. The dsic plays from the centre to the outer edge. Because of the manufacturing method used to create writeable media, this is where the most issues manifest themselves.

You have a couple of choices.

    1. The most obvious - get better media. Start with www.nomorecoasters.com to get an idea of the current state of play.

    2. Use a lower bitrate, which makes your video take up less space, which means you don't have to burn to the edge of the disc. Of course, this entails a quality trade-off.

I AM USING VERBATIM MEDIA WHICH IS TOP OF THE LINE!! Honestly there is nothing wrong with the media. So any other ideas?

Have you tried testing the burns ? I use DVD info pro to read and speed test every burn.

The only other possible cause that springs to mind is a simple incompatability between the discs and player, or the write strategy of the burner and your player. If it is happening consistently (as it appears to be), then perhaps a replacement is in order. Is it still under warranty ?

FWIW, I cannot get a good burn out of TY discs with my NEC burner. Despite all the recommendations here to use TY and not touch Ritek G05's, I get 100% clean and playable from the Ritek and TDKs that I use, and get nothing by coasters from the TY's that I have tried.
