Hi-
There are several ways to accomplish this, but the one I know best is easy and it works. First author with just the menu and main video, leaving aside the intro video. Make sure the intro video is authored separately for DVD, with IFO, BUP, and VOB.
Then open the completed main DVD in PGCEdit, and up at the top, go Title->Import First Play (startup) Clip. Follow the easy instructions from there, and you'll wind up with the new Intro/First Play Clip, followed by the menu.
I believe you can also do it directly using TDA to author. -
Are you trying to add this to an existing DVD, or when authoring from scratch ?
DVD Lab Pro, DVD Workshop 2 and DVD Architect all have first play capabilities. TDA can also do it, but it is a round-about solution. What software do you normally use for authoring ?Read my blog here.

Hay guns1inger, I'm making a dvd from scratch. A photo slide show for a small business that wants to "copyright" the dvd. I suggested that instead of tattoo-ing a logo in each image I may be-able to author the dvd so that their logo starts (like paramount pictures etc) but before the menu loads. I have made the main movie and also an animated version of their logo. I usually author dvds with nero or tmpgenc, however, I cannot see an option where i can make it play this short clip before the menu?
I will check out the dvd lab tut's cos i have that software too, thanks for the suggestions. -
Thanks manono, thats exactly what i was after. May i ask what software you use to author a dvd to your local drive? At the moment the only way i could do that is to burn to dvd-rw then copy the disk to the hd.

In Tmpgenc DVD Author there is a drop down that sets a video as the first play, however I believe the itme also has to be on a menu. Some add it, but hide the button.
It gets discussed briefly here https://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic.php?t=302594Read my blog here.

I'm sorry but I don't really understand the question. Ordinarily I back up DVDs, and author a reencoded movie with Muxman. If I'm making a menu, then I author using DVDAuthorGUI.
Nor do I understand the bit about burning to disc and then putting it back on the hard drive. When I wrote my previous post, I was assuming that the authoring process would give you a complete DVD with IFOs, BUPs, and VOBs. So, where's the need to burn? Just open the completed DVD in PGCEdit. Maybe your authoring app makes ISOs ready to burn. If so, turn off the ISO creation, or mount it in Daemon Tools and then use DVD Decrypter to put it on the hard drive in manageable form. Or maybe I just don't understand. Always possible. -
THANKS GUYS
Guns1inger once again you saved the day
And credit goes out to MANONO too !
much appreciated
I noticed that dvd lab pro has a first play option but by vm commands
Does anyone know how to do it this way? -
For First Play in DLP, in the connection window, use the "connection" selector (it's the "+" sign, not the Arrow icon). Then just click the handle on the FIRST PLAY, and drag to the item you want to be the First Play.
