  1. When I use VIrtualDubMod (or VirtualDub or NanDub for that matter) to append two avi files I sometimes get the problem that at the new seam there is a high pitched, short sound and then the sound is nearly silent, gradually coming back over the next few minutes.
Anybody else got this problem and why is this happening? Much more important, how to fix this?

    Best regards,
    joe

Does the audio play properly on each file before joining? If so, then joining may be the problem. If you are converting them to DVD, don't join them. Let the authoring program do that. If not, VD does about a good job as any for appending. But someone might suggest a better program for joining.

It sounds like a corruption in the audio file. You could mux it out after the joining and run it through Audacity if it's MP3 or WAV. Find the problem area and replace it with silence, then mux it back in. I'm assuming the audio stays in sync the length of the joined video?

  3. The audio works perfectly while the files are still seperately and it is well in sync after the seam point.
Also this only seems to happen with AC3 sound. Haven't yet encountered one corrupted movie with MP3 audio.

  4. You may need the AC3 ACM decompressor installed. It is in the tools section.
It doesn't matter who you vote for. The government always gets in.

  5. I have dscaler and AC3filter installed, so what would AC3 ACM decompressor be good for?

  6. Okay, the guilty party seems to be AC3filter. On my second machine where I only have dscaler5 installed the video works perfectly. None the wiser as to the core of the problem, but happy anyways.
