I have a divx video I want to convert to DVD mpeg2. The file format:

    divx 6, 512x384, NTSC 29,97 fps, 1779,20 kb/s, mp3 audio.

How do I scale this video to a DVD compliant format?

I have QuickTime Pro 7, Toast 7, Mpeg streamclip and Apple Compressor 3.0.2 on my Powerbook G4 (1,25 MHZ).

I have tried to use streamclip DV export and the "X/Y" aspect ratio to scale the video and add black bars on the side, but I do not understand how to do this properly.

Is it an option to use Toast 7 for this conversion?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Regards

    Bjorn

Yes, Toast will take care of the proper scaling.

No need for black bars as the source video is 4:3.

  3. Since the frame size is 4:3 you can pretty much assume it's 4:3 display aspect ratio. Just resize to 720x576 and burn as 4:3 PAL DVD.

Thank you for your advice! Toast did a very good job with the conversion, it is a great application.

I also have another question regarding conversion/scaling. I have a SVCD file that I want to put on a DVD. I have changed the audio from 44,1 to 48 KHZ, but the video is the problem:

    mpeg2, 480x480, 4:3, NTSC-FILM 23,976 fps, 2,52 mbps

I have made a version by using Streamclip - export as QuickTime, Apple DV-NTSC, framerate 23,976 and 480x480. I encoded the DV to mpeg2 in Apple Compressor with the 24P preset (NTSC-FILM with 3:2 pulldown). I let Apple Compressor do the scaling from 480x480 to 720x480. The DVD looks OK, but I am not sure if this is the best way to do this conversion.

    Any suggestions?

  5. One thing you can try is using an MPEG file modifier to make the header(s) say the file is 720x480. Then author that to DVD without reencoding. It will not be to spec (so you wouldn't want to do this if you are producing commercial DVDs) but most players will play it properly.

I don't know what Mac programs can do this. You can read through messages about DVD Patcher (MS Windows) to get an idea how this works.
