  1. Hi everyone,

Does anyone know which brick & mortar store I can find legal size (8.5 x 14) inkjet paper? I'd like to get at least a 500 sheet ream, which will be too heavy for mail order, so I'd like to buy locally. I don't need photo paper quality; but I"d like something better than just copy paper quality. So far the only oversize inkjet paper I can find is at OfficeMax, but it's 13 x 19, which won't fit my IP4000.

If anyone can point me to a store that sells it, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

BTW take care of your printer .I have the IP3000 those Pixma's sell right now for over $300 now. All the new Pixma's have a build in chip so you can't use generic ink anymore. I been using generic ink since I bought it over a year ago 0 issues

Staples or about any office supply store. That's a common size. It's strange OfficeMax didn't have it. We get it from Office Depot. Get the heavier weight paper that's smoother on one side for inkjet use.

I spent six months looking and only found "regular" legal paper at OfficeMax, Office Depot, Staples, Wallmart, Target, and anywhere else I could think of. They have lots of other sizes for inkjet but not legal (very odd)

I finally ordered some Epson inkjet legal paper on-line from SureNeeds and it looks great.

    Yep, that's the same stuff.

Circuit City lists it as "out of stock online" and "not available in stores"

Ritz shows it as "online only"

Finding true ink-jet legal paper is harder than I (or other people here, obviously) thought.

Uh... I may be a bit daft, but when it comes to paper... like printer paper, isn't all the same? I mean, when I go to the store, I don't specifically look for ink jet paper. Hell, you can use copy paper! I have.

I've never seen GLOSSY LEGAL SIZE ink jet printer paper in a retail store.

I'm talking GLOSSY or PHOTO etc.

Luckily my printer can just barely fit a DVD cover on a standard 8 1/2 x 11 inch sheet of GLOSSY paper when I use the borderless printing option.

I'd feel better using LEGAL SIZE though so I wouldn't have to use the borderless option but so far (knock on wood) so good.

When I have a home video that I need to make a bunch of copies of (for various family members) I just print one copy on my printer then color photocopy it at Kinko's and I use LEGAL SIZE paper. It's not GLOSSY but good enough image quality wise and in a DVD case looks nice even though it's not GLOSSY.

Yikes, when did the price jump up so high? Wasn't it less than 8 months ago that the US version of Pixma line were selling for less than $100? I purchased the UK version last year, paid less than what they're charging now for the US model (bought it to print DVD labels.)

I haven't had time to research on generic inks; so I've just been buying the genuine replacement carts from Costco -- but thanks for the tip about the newer models. I do hope I won't have to buy a new one any time soon though!

Have you tried CompUSA? I think I saw legal sized epson high quality paper there. Another store to try is Micro Pro (I think it is one word).

Spiffy & MJA: I believe it is the newer IP5000 model (forget the exact number) that costs ~$300. Although the IP3000 (if that specific model has been discontinued) I could see selling for more, but I am pretty sure I have still seen them in stores for ~$79.00 after rebates.

I generally don't use refills/generics, don't trust them for quality/longevity, but then again I didn't buy an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 to only print off DVD covers

So the OP is talking about photo paper then? You know when someone states "paper" without qualifying the statement with something like "photo", I tend to think just regular paper.

Told you I may be a bit daft.

If you find photo paper larger than legal you could just take it to Kinko's and have them cut it down to legal size. It'll cost $3 to do up to about 250 sheets of the heavy stuff so get as much cut as you can. If you only need a few sheets just use the trimmers they have in store to cut it down manually. If you do have Kinko's cut it make sure to tell them to use extra chipboard around your paper. The hydraulic clamp on those cutters can leave nasty marks on the paper otherwise.

I could be wrong but I took the OP to mean GLOSSY or PHOTO paper in LEGAL SIZE and I know from experience that I have never seen that in a retail store ala STAPLES or OFFICE MAX or CompUSA etc.

I've seen regular run-of-the-mill LEGAL SIZE paper but never GLOSSY nor PHOTO and come to think of it nothing more than just the very standard type paper ... nothing you would want to print high quality color images on from an INK JET type printer.

I love the Smurf ... I really do ... poor guy gets ripped on enough as it is for no good reason ... but There are paper stores around me. I go there. just doesn't cut it :P

Actually, I wasn't talking about photo paper -- just paper made for inkjet printers. I've used the kind from Costco that says "inkjet paper" and also regular copy paper -- there is a difference in printing quality to my eyes. Less bleeding, for starters. I don't need photo paper; but I want something a bit better quality than copy paper -- I'm printing a lot of line art and drawings.

Ironically, I called Kinko's and asked them if they carry legal size inkjet papers. The girl got my hopes up by telling me that they did; I went to the location that I called, only to be told that all they had were laser papers, and they never carried inkjet paper (since they do color laser there, no use for inkjet.)

Don't know if I can get the quality I want with laser paper -- my distinct feeling is that "laser paper" is just regular copy paper.

    It was a hint Fulci.
The guy asked for help finding something, but we have no idea where he is.

It also could have been intepreted as "pick up a yellow pages and search under PAPER STORES".

No, Kinko's "laser paper" is a dense bond 28-lb Hammermill that works wonderfully for color laser printers, but because it isn't very porous it never works with inkjets. I was recommending you use Kinko's to cut down that larger 13x19 paper you found if you can't find any other sources of legal-sized gloss inkjet stock. Some offset stocks work with inkjets but it's hit-or-miss on if they do, and printers tend to charge a lot to sell their bulk stock cut down.

Regular legal paper is the way to go if you're only printing DVD inserts unless you have a printer (like my new HP) that will print all the way to the edge, then a better quality 24# paper works fine. The plastic film on the case gives the print a higher quality look.

If printing large high quality prints and artwork, I would suggest buying a large format laser printer or paying someone to professionally print them.

When I make 8x10 portatraits with my printer, I buy plain cheap watercolor paper and cut it to size. You might check with an arts and crafts store and see if they have something that you like and buy a paper cutter. For CD inserts and cards I use Wausau 90# Exact Bristol or 110# Exact Index paper.

A paper cutter, an 18" steel ruler and a good mechanical pencil are a must for this type of work.

I was in CompUSA. They have photo paper in ledger size (11 x 17) and even Super A3 or larger, but (grrrr!) no legal size at all.

A search through Office Depot shows that it's simply NOT AVAILABLE at that size. Interesting.

Well at least 11x17 can be cut down to legal size.

I do seem to recall finding that Epson does make a legal size I think photo or glossy paper as I found it listed somewhere once (either on the back of another sized paper package of Epson or maybe on the website). I know that I have never seen it in stores.

The post above got me thinking ... seems a lot of people trust NEWEGG.COM so I did a search on there for legal size (8.5 inch by 14 inch) inkjet paper.

Here are some links that I found:

1.) Epson 100 sheet Legal Size Photo Paper ... $12.48

Actually believe it or not that is the ONLY listing for ANY type of inkjet printer paper that is legal size ... at least as far as NEWEGG.COM goes.

So I decided to check the BUY.COM website. Here is what I found there for legal size inkjet paper:

1.) Epson 100 sheet Legal Size Matte Photo Paper ... $14.99

Again that was the only listing when I did a search for 8.5" x 14" paper. Also I did not limit my search to Epson ... that's just what these two websites had to offer.

    - John "FulciLives" Coleman

    P.S.
The post above mine here with all the links was a nice idea but those links are for 11" x 14" paper ... that is not legal size ... legal size is 8.5" x 14"
